1. Grocery Budget

For the past year I was working as a chef for a local company here in Tulsa. The main perk of that job was that we could take home extra food for free. So basically, for the past year of my life we have received about 90% of our meals for free. We also would get free produce regularly. (We could take home whatever produce was left at the kitchen at the end of the week that would go bad by the next week). I probably brought grapes home every single week. The on top of all the free food we had a grocery budget of $150/month.

Well, I recently lost my job so the free food is no more. We did not really want to make sacrifices on other area of the budget so we decided to stick with the $150/month for groceries. At first we thought it would be impossible since we used all of that before AND had free food. But after reading so many blogs about grocery budgeting I have decided that it IS possible.

Here’s to spending only $150/month on food at the grocery store. Look for updates about how we spend on food and maintain this strict budget.

(It would be wise to point out that we are only two people, not like a family of six)
